“They’ve never had a black woman make it past the corps de ballet. So it was kind of scary. I wondered if it could ever happen. It made me think about leaving several times. I’ve been in the company for seven years now, and I’ve watched black women come and go, auditioning, that are gorgeous, that don’t get in. And you wonder why. And you see dancers in the company that you know are not nearly as good.”
- Misty Copeland,  The first Black Ballerina soloist  for The American Ballet Theater in 30 yrs
No Need to wonder why. Its because of people like this:
Last Christmas, I took my grandchildren to “The Nutcracker,” a ballet I love. My enjoyment was severely marred by the appearance of a black snowflake and then, even worse, a black Snow King. The aesthetic incongruity was inconceivable. The entire ballet was spoiled. It is analogous to a one-legged midget playing Tarzan. Does this make me a racist?

If you feel like you have to ask if you are racist, more than likely you are…..and stupid, too.

Brown skin is beautiful when it is natural. The pigments remind me of a painting in which, if you look closely, you can see each careful stroke of the artist’s brush. It’s different from white skin in that way. However, either is no less beautiful than the other. Accept it, or tolerate it; because if you hate it, the only conclusion we can derive from that is that you are jealous.
In short, get a life of your own so we can stop hearing about your mindless, racist bickering.

If seeing someone of colour succeeding at doing what they love spoils your ballet, then you’re racist. Just a thought.

If you think the ballet was spoiled by a black person being in it, then yeah, you’re fucking racist.
